A Five-Star Life
I’ve shared several posts about Wrai, our little grey feral cat who we trapped and moved from Florida to North Carolina. Actually, I shouldn’t call Wrai “our cat.” He’s never let us pet him, and he’s still very standoffish.
Wrai is an independent little fellow.
Almost.
The fact is Wrai needs us. That’s why we put him through the cruel and unusual punishment of trapping him, taking him to the vet, and moving him with us to North Carolina.
You may recall from a previous post how Wrai got his name. Wrai is short for wraith. That’s what he looked like over two years ago when my wife decided to start feeding him. He was surviving on neighborhood garbage.
Not anymore!
It’s cat pate for Wrai now! And he is no longer a skinny cat. He’s a sleek, muscular specimen of feline fitness.
Every evening right at dark, Wrai enters our condo by means of the cat door installed in our living room window. He eats his pate, walks around like he owns the place, and takes a nap on his cat tower. Then he exits into the darkness where he spends his evening doing whatever.
He’s back at first light for breakfast. Then he’s off again.
All in all, this one-time little, grey skin-and-bones cat is living large.
You’re welcome, Wrai.
How much more? That’s a question Jesus often asks his hearers directly or implies in so many of his parables. And I can’t help but think of that question of our Lord when I reflect on Wrai’s little life. It’s not unlike my own.
I’m not a wealthy man, but I am rich. Among my storehouse of treasures are relationships with all kinds of people from all kinds of backgrounds all around the world. I serve a small church, not encumbered by administrative burdens but instead made up of an awesome multicultural congregation with opportunities for service for all of them regardless of gender, race, or economic status. I play golf with a pastor friend once a week, and a group of great guys who, believe it or not, have different political views. And they still get along!!!
These are just a few of the treasures I possess in my five-star life.
And every one of them comes from God.
Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17)
And Jesus was right. Allow me a little liberty with this next verse of Scripture -
If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your little grey cat, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! (Matthew 7:11)
Thank you, Lord, for Wrai, and what he’s teaching me about your goodness and grace in my life.
In Christ,
Dan
