Church on the Edge Update
I just got back from a South Georgia hunting trip. Deer lovers rejoice; I’ve hunted four times this year and come home empty-handed. So, it’s Deer - 4, Dan - 0!
Honestly, I considered not even mentioning my hunting. I know some people feel strongly about killing animals. I understand. I never kill anything I don’t eat. Our kids were raised on venison in our early churches - venison, along with vegetables and beef from local members and ranchers in Texas. In fact, I don’t like to say I killed a deer, but rather, I harvested a deer. And I can tell you that even when I come home empty-handed, I love my time in the woods. God’s presence always accompanies me.
Anyway, it’s time for an update. I’m almost finished with reading through Philemon: Reflections on Christian Maturity. The book is now available on Kindle through Amazon. You can purchase the paperback or e-book. (Click the link above.) There is also a free version available for Kindle Unlimited members. I have read some excellent books using my Kindle Unlimited membership. There are some excellent, if not, for the most part, unknown authors out there. Technology advances have radically changed the publishing industry. Writers now enjoy a freedom of creativity without the restraints of editors and professional publishers. It’s a great time to be a writer.
Here’s where I’m headed through the holidays.
First, I will conclude the Philemon podcasts, but I am going to do a couple of podcasts in which I just expand on themes from the book. To be honest, I’d rather just speak conversationally than read. This book was such a blessing for me to write, and I want to share some things God has taught me through this labor of love.
Second, I will conclude my posts on Psalm 23. How long will this take? I don’t have a clue. I’ll just write until I’m finished.
Third, of course, I am going to be writing some Christmas devotionals. How could I not! Again, I don’t have a schedule; I’m just waking up every morning, sitting in my easy chair in my study, and trusting that God is leading me.
Sherri and I have a trip to Los Angelos planned in early December. When I was working on my MBA at Florida State, I met a great guy from Sri Lanka, Muhammad Nelufar. He started a business in L.A. a few decades ago after working in Abu Dhabi for many years. I consider him to be one of my best friends. Yes, he’s Muslim, but both he and his children were educated in Christian private schools. Who knows what God may do. Please pray.
Life is good. God is good. Thanks for reading.
In Christ,
Dan
