Church on the Edge Update
I’ve been a bit distracted lately, hence the lack of regular weekday posts. Many of you have been a part of my ministry since the twelve years Sherri and I spent in Seoul. Others have signed up in the last couple of years. But for all of you here’s an update.
Sherri retired from her thirteen years as a civilian nurse with the Department of Defense. The transition from the United States to Korea was not easy. It took a year and a half for Sherri to find a nursing position on the Eighty Army Base in Seoul. With the housing crash of 2008 and two daughters in college we ended up filing for bankruptcy in 2009. It was a difficult time for us. But we learned that God is at work even through the most trying times. Best of all, we learned how, like Paul, how to be content whatever our circumstances.
Our years in Pensacola were a blessing. We lived in a Habitat Humanity neighborhood. I wound up serving as the Home Owners Association president, and during that time, we saw some progress in the neighborhood. I’m happy to report that the two shootings, one two doors down to the left of us, and the other three doors down to the right, mobilized our community to make some changes. We left our neighborhood firmly convinced that its future was bright.
We are still transitioning here in High Point, North Carolina. I’ve connected with some local pastors, and have plans to seek out and get to know several of our international church pastors. Multi-cultural relationships with other followers of Jesus is where my heart is, and I believe God has led us to the perfect place.
The week after the Labor Day holiday in the United States, I will begin Season Five of our Church on the Edge podcasts. The theme for this upcoming season is “Pearls of Great Price.” I’ll be sharing on the Ways and Wisdom of God’s Kingdom, which is so contrary to the ways and wisdom of the kingdoms of this world. Podcasts will be released on Fridays through multiple media. If you are a subscriber to my ministry through Substack, you will receive each podcast in your email.
My book on Galatians is due out late Fall. I’m not sure if I’m going to make that deadline. I’m going to try but there is so much going on right now. I’ll keep you posted.
You can also expect more posts on Embrace Church. This is a unique church. One that really appealed to me the first time I came across their description in the Gardner Webb University web site. Multi-cultural and committed to women serving in ministry. Pretty unusual for a Southern Baptist Church! I’ll keep you updated on what God is doing among us. This Fall we will be meeting in Spiritual Growth Groups using my book “Masterpiece in the Making.” I’m looking forward to the relationships we build through these times together.
Let me conclude by encouraging you the same way a good friend, and retired Army general, encourages me - Stay in the fight!
In Christ,
Dan
