Crossroads
Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. (Jeremiah 6:16)
Crossroads. We all come to them. Those times in our lives when we have decisions to make. Important decisions. Decisions that will affect the rest of our lives. Crossroads tend to be crisis times and crisis places. And because they are more often than not crises of decisions, they can paralyze and immobilize us. We become fearful of making a bad decision, the wrong decision. The result is we do nothing which, in and of itself, is a decision.
There are times in our lives when we must choose. We cannot ignore our circumstances. We cannot push the pause button on the future.
For almost four decades, I have prayed with, counseled, and encouraged many people at the crossroads. I have seen many do exactly what Jeremiah advises; they have asked God for the “good way.” For some, the answer was obvious - a new job opportunity, a closed-door, or maybe just a strong sense that what they had been a part of was coming to an end.
But obvious or not, the answer always demands a demonstration of faith on our part. This is why Jeremiah not only says to ask for “the good way,” but to “walk in it.” Walking requires faith. Scripture tells us that we walk by faith and not by sight. (2 Cor. 5:7)
Are you at a crossroads? Are there some important decisions you need to make? Maybe you have made those decisions, but now the time is coming when you must step out and walk by faith. Tomorrow, we will talk about what that involves.
In Christ,
Dan
