Finding Ourselves
God is constantly working in your life and mine to strip away those things that seem so important to us but, in reality, aren’t the things that ultimately determine who we truly are.
I’ve served for thirty-eight years as a pastor and teacher, but that’s not who I am. Not ultimately. I’ve been married to the same incredible woman for thirty-nine years, and I have three awesome children who I love deeply, but as much as those relationships have shaped my life, those aren’t the things that define me. It’s the other way around, the exact opposite. Who I am in Christ determines the kind of pastor and husband, and father I am and will be.
We allow ourselves to be caught up in so many things, good things, things that matter, things that make a difference in our lives, but the problem is we seek to shape and define our identity by these things. Things like careers and marriages and families.
But our identity is not found in these things. Our identity is found in one place and one place only. Our identity is found in Christ. As we wrap our spirits around this truth, we begin to see our world and our relationships in a new light. We begin to relate to others based not on their worldly identity but simply as fellow human beings created in the image of God. And that is true success in life.
In Christ,
Dan
