Get Back Up!
I think my all-time favorite Bible verse is Proverbs 24:16 - “For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.”
I love this verse because I need this verse. It’s on my mind today because I fell several times in the last few hours.
I play golf once a week with a great group of guys. My game is getting better, and today I hit some of my best golf shots in a long time. But I also hit some U-gly shots, as one of my golf buddies says. (stress the long u in u-gly).
I love golf. You can learn a lot about someone on the golf course. You can also learn a lot about yourself. Do you count every stroke? Can you pull it back together after a disastrous, or in my case today, several disastrous shots?
I know it’s just a game unless of course, you’re Korean. Koreans are serious about golf! Way too serious for a guy like me. I’m just out there to enjoy the sunshine and good fellowship with other golfers. I guess Koreans can be that way too, but I’ve played with enough of them to know they are intense!
Anyway, just a game. But it is a game that, as I said, reveals a great deal about one’s character.
As we make our way through this wonderful, sometimes painful, always surprising and mysterious thing called life, our character is both tested, revealed, and, if we respond in persevering faith, shaped into something strong and good, something that reflects the goodness and grace of God, seen so clearly in Jesus.
Maybe you’ve fallen recently. Maybe you’ve fallen repeatedly. Fine. Get back up. The Lord’s hand is reaching out, and He’s ready to pull you back up. Character isn’t made apart from some failures and falls in life. It’s built through an understanding of God’s limitless grace and a persevering spirit that gets back up.
In Christ,
Dan
