Home
“Home is a place where you’re supposed to feel safe, but I don’t really know what it means to be safe or okay . . . I just want to be in the place with no pain and no drain, no disdain, no constraints and no strain and no weight . . . I just wanna be home.”
Kerey Kim’s new single, Home, captures the heart cry of so many people in our world today. The video on YouTube is deeply moving; haunting may be a better word.
You can find it here. Take time to pause and reflect on what you see and hear.
I’ve been reflecting for several days now, as the music and lyrics of this song have made their home in my heart. The song is not overtly Christian, and that’s what I like about it and about Kerey’s art in general. He simply allows what is in him to flow from the depths of his being into the hearts of those with whom his music connects. But make no mistake about it, Kerey is one of the godliest people I know. I’m a better man for knowing him.
Together, we served in Seoul for almost twelve years. Our church averaged between twenty and twenty-five nationalities. We were multi-cultural - red and yellow, black and white, and every one precious in God’s sight. As you watch the video of Home, you’ll notice this same variety of cultures. It’s the product of someone whose life is lived in the midst of what Scripture refers to as God’s multi-colored wisdom. (See Ephesians 3:10)
What I love most about Home is the verse that comes to mind as I reflect on the words of the song -
Come to me, all you who are heavy burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Matthew 11:28-29)
As Sherri and I (and Wrai!) settle into our new home in North Carolina, we are discovering once more that our ultimate home is in Christ. And like those who have gone before us in the faith, we are ultimately looking for our heavenly home. In the meantime, we’ve found a little taste of that home in the people of Embrace Church.
In Christ,
Dan
