It's Up to You
Welcome to the new year at Church on the Edge. I’m beginning my sixth month as pastor of Embrace Church, and Sherri and I are almost settled into our new life here in High Point, North Carolina.
What can you expect this year from Church on the Edge? To begin with, expect to hear more about the ministry of Embrace Church. Our little “mustard seed” fellowship is growing. And when I say growing, I’m not talking exclusively about numbers. I’m talking about community - people from different backgrounds and cultures coming together, and building genuine relationships with one another through our shared faith in Jesus Christ. I’m also talking about the relationships we are building with other churches in our shared building.
For example, on Christmas Day, we joined Powerhouse Church (also known as Life on Lexington Church), along with another Black American church, a Hispanic church, and a Haitian church to feed the homeless in our city. It was a Merry Christmas for all involved!
On New Year’s Day, I shared a message with our fellowship entitled, “It’s Up to You.” I’d like to take the next several posts and highlight some of what I said in that message. That message is a call and challenge to leave our past behind as we look forward to walking with Jesus on the edge in the days ahead.
This message came to me, through the Holy Spirit, during an extended period of prayer in my study. At one point, my gaze fell on a plaque given to me many years ago during a time of great personal struggle. “Where you come from is not nearly as important as where you are going” are the words on that plaque. And how very true those words are!
I can’t think of a better time for each one of us to stop and answer two questions based on that plaque -
Where do you come from?
and
(2) Where are you going?
Would you join me in these next several days as we reflect on these two questions and the potential impact they have on the lives of all who take the time to seriously consider them?
We will begin tomorrow. If you’re interested, you can listen to the entire message here.
Looking forward to living on the edge with Jesus in 2023!
In Christ,
Dan
