The Divine Adventure
The longer I serve him, the more mysterious God’s ways are to me. Mysterious, but trustworthy. If you had asked me to describe my future forty years ago, as I left a lucrative job in business and headed to seminary to begin training as a pastor, I could have done so quite easily. And I would have been way off base! The future God had planned for me was nothing like I imagined. It was far better. That doesn’t mean it was easy. It was not. But my faith is stronger, and I relish the future now, not because I know what lies ahead, but precisely because I do not. Following Jesus is always an adventure!
In this divine adventure to which our Lord calls us, we are asked to walk by faith, not by sight. And we quickly learn that the path we walk is lit one step at a time. We spend far too much time fretting over the future than focusing on the present. God will be waiting for us in the future, but it is right now, in the present, that his will and work are being accomplished in our lives. “Don’t worry about tomorrow,” Jesus counsels, “tomorrow will worry about itself.”* Whatever awaits you and me “out there,” we can be certain that God will be waiting for us. We can also be certain that His grace will be sufficient, his love beyond measure, and His plans beyond anything we can imagine.
In Christ,
Dan
