I’m distracted this week in a good way. Yalena Elizabeth Armistead is scheduled to hatch by C-section tomorrow. I say “hatch” because her parents chose a dinosaur theme for the baby shower we gave a few weeks ago. I’m tempted to nickname her Pebbles. But at the moment, another nickname has attached itself to my mind - YaYa.
Now, when this nickname first came to mind, it was just a humorous tag for my grandbaby. I’m known for this. Our firstborn, I called Cridder. Number two became (and is to this day) Boo Boo. And our son, who was born last, but not least, I called Buddy.
But imagine my surprise when I read about YaYa in the Urban Dictionary. “Loved by many, hated by few. Is nice to everyone. People take their kindness for a weakness, but they are bad### when they want to be.”
What I find so amusing about this description of YaYa is it sounds a whole lot like her mother, our super awesome daughter-in-law. My Marine son needed a kind, but tough wife, much like his father needed. And, God, in His grace, gave him exactly what he needed.
That’s what God does. He always gives us what we need. Often, we don’t even recognize what we have, but I can tell you as the years go by and as we grow in our understanding of God’s providential care in our lives, we begin to recognize who He has used to shape us into the people He is calling us to be.
If you don’t hear from me in a few days, you’ll know why! Meanwhile, look around and ask God to show you who He is working through in your life.
In Christ,
Dan
